VIRTUAL TRADE MISSION TO ABUJA, NIGERIA IN CONJUNCTION WITH VIRTUAL WORLD HALAL EXPO
The Virtual Trade Mission to Nigeria was successfully organised from 23 – 27 March 2021. The participants were involved in business-to-business meetings during this Virtual Trade Mission. This meeting took place via Zoom Meeting Platform. This meeting received more than 160 registrants from Nigerian and Malaysian company representatives. The meeting was conducted from 4 pm Malaysia local time and 9 am Nigeria time.
The event began with the Organising Chairman welcomed all participants to this event. He also mentioned in the speech that this platform is to provide Halal industry to grow at international level, despite the pandemic. Also, he hopes that this initiative can help to foster the industry and ecosystem beyond Malaysia, and hope Nigeria can be the Halal Hub and gateway to the surrounding countries in the West Africa. Datuk Azman Yusoff, President of Bumiputera Manufacturers & Services Industry Association of Malaysia (PPIPBM) also said that this platform is an excellent example of building bridges to establish global link to foster the halal industry worldwide. Mr. Alhaji Arabi Muhammmad Tukur, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer from Abuja Enterprise Agency spoke about the advantages of this platform and its benefits to both countries (Malaysia and Nigeria).
The Malaysian Trade Commissioner, MATRADE in Lagos, Nigeria, Mr Khairy Maidin also attended the meeting the next day. In his speech, he encouraged and offered his support for Malaysian companies to market their products to Nigeria. Mr. Alhaj Al-Mujtaba Abubakar, President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry gave briefing to all the participants on doing business in Nigeria.
There were 28 participating companies comprising of more than 50 participants from Malaysia and Nigeria. 20 breakout rooms have been created for them to do business to business (b2b) meeting. It was estimated USD211,000 sales potential were generated throughout this meeting from the IT, education and consultancy work.
